Atherton is one of the more affluent communities in the Bay Area and is nestled between larger cities of Menlo Park and Redwood City. Larger lots are the norm in Atherton, making their population density one of the lowest on the peninsula. There are only about 7,000 residents in this town that is approximately 6 square miles. There is only one public school that sits within the boundaries of the city, which is Los Lomitas Elementary that serves grades K-3. Atherton is served by both the Menlo Park and Los Lomitas elementary school districts and the Sequoia Union high school district. Tree-lined streets and unpaved sidewalks give this community a unique feel. Many of the elegant homes are situated on an acre or more of land and sit back from the street. The downtown area of Menlo Park as well as Stanford Shopping Center are close-by which offer a variety of dining experiences and retail shopping. Within Atherton’s city limits is Holbrook Palmer Estate which is a beautiful 22 acre public park and event facility.
