New Hot Spots To Try In Redwood City
Redwood City is experiencing a culinary renaissance, attracting both new ventures and established restaurateurs. In August 2024, The Baker Next Door opened on Main Street, offering artisanal bread and pastries crafted by head baker Luis Lujan. Notable items include a boule with green olives, asiago, and thyme, and a pain suisse filled with vanilla pastry cream and dark chocolate. Stop by for coffee and a treat.
Established names are also expanding into the area. Mazra, a Mediterranean eatery renowned for its wood-fired kebabs and shawarma, opened a new location on Broadway in May 2023. A kitchen fire in June 2024 caused the restaurant to close while they completed repairs. They resumed operations in October 2024. The owners, Jordan and Saif Makableh, have been recognized as James Beard Award semifinalists for Best Chef in California.
Pizzeria Cardamomo, also located on Broadway in Redwood City, offers an authentic Italian dining experience under the guidance of Chef Momo, a Moroccan-born pizzaiolo trained in Lake Como, Italy. The restaurant is celebrated for its organic, scratch-made sourdough pizzas, featuring both classic options like Margherita and unique creations such as the Moroccan pizza with sausage and dried plums.
Other notable additions include Das Bierhauz, a German beer garden; Bao, specializing in dim sum; and Limón, a Peruvian restaurant that opened its latest location in October 2024.
When you are done eating, walk over to Redwood City’s newest independent bookstore, Fireside Books & More. Fireside Books opened its doors on February 1, 2025, at 2421 Broadway Street. Founded by Andrew Johnson and Taylor Kubota. In addition to literature, Fireside offers cards, stickers, and locally crafted goods, including birdhouses by LeighLee's Garden and jewelry by Wandergrove. For those who prefer online shopping, the store provides an option through Bookshop.org, allowing customers to support the local business from anywhere.
The surge in new restaurants and businesses enhances Redwood City’s real estate appeal, making it an increasingly attractive destination for residents.
