Redwood City dining and shopping options are drawing attention from food lovers and homebuyers alike, as the Redwood City area experiences a culinary renaissance that's boosting its appeal in the Mid-Peninsula real estate market. The surge of new restaurants and independent businesses makes this community an increasingly attractive place to call home.
In August 2024, The Baker Next Door opened on Main Street, offering artisanal bread and pastries crafted by head baker Luis Lujan. Notable items include a boule with green olives, asiago, and thyme, plus a pain suisse filled with vanilla pastry cream and dark chocolate. Stop by for coffee and a freshly baked treat.
Mazra, a Mediterranean eatery renowned for its wood-fired kebabs and shawarma, opened a new Redwood City location on Broadway in May 2023. After a kitchen fire temporarily closed the restaurant in June 2024, Mazra resumed operations in October 2024. Owners Jordan and Saif Makableh have been recognized as James Beard Award semifinalists for Best Chef in California, bringing their celebrated cuisine to the Mid-Peninsula community.
Pizzeria Cardamomo, also on Broadway, offers authentic Italian dining under Chef Momo, a Moroccan-born pizzaiolo trained in Lake Como, Italy. The restaurant is celebrated for its organic, scratch-made sourdough pizzas, featuring both classic options like Margherita and unique creations such as the Moroccan pizza with sausage and dried plums.
Other notable additions enhancing Redwood City's restaurant scene include Das Bierhauz, a German beer garden; Bao, specializing in dim sum; and Limón, a Peruvian restaurant that opened its latest location in October 2024. These diverse dining options reflect the area's growing appeal to residents and visitors throughout the Mid-Peninsula.
After enjoying Redwood City dining, visit the area's newest independent bookstore, Fireside Books & More. Fireside Books opened on February 1, 2025, at 2421 Broadway Street, founded by Andrew Johnson and Taylor Kubota. In addition to literature, Fireside offers cards, stickers, and locally crafted goods, including birdhouses by LeighLee's Garden and jewelry by Wandergrove. The store also provides an option to shop through Bookshop.org, allowing customers to support the local business from anywhere.
The growth in Redwood City restaurants and shops enhances the area's real estate value, making it an increasingly desirable destination for homebuyers. These new businesses reflect the community's evolution as one of the top Mid-Peninsula areas for families and professionals seeking walkable neighborhoods with excellent dining and local shopping.
