Belmont’s name is so very fitting as it means Beautiful Hills and it is definitely a city of hills and beautiful ones at that. It is a smaller city along the peninsula with a population of about 27,000 and it is less than 5 square miles in size. The public school system in this community is very strong and draws a lot of people to the city. There are 4 public elementary schools (one of which is K-8), 1 middle school and 1 high school. It is also home to Notre Dame de Namur, a private university. Belmont has a very small downtown space near city hall but also has a quaint shopping area at Carlmont Shopping Center. The Belmont library is a beautiful facility with a park on the grounds. A huge asset to Belmont is all of the nature trails in the area with Water Dog Lake Park being a trail system located in the heart of the city.
