Hillsborough is a prestigious town on the San Francisco peninsula with a woodsy and private feel about it. It is a little more than 6 square miles and has a population of about 11,000. There are 3 elementary schools and 1 middle school within the Hillsborough elementary school district. It is served by the San Mateo Union high school district, but does not have a high school within its boundaries. Hillsborough stretches from El Camino Real up to highway 280 so spans from flat areas up to areas in the hills. It largely lacks sidewalks and you do not tend to see people out walking or on bikes like some of the surrounding communities. The community has a very tranquil feel to it and residences have a lot of privacy from the streets that meander through this esteemed town.
